They say the next big thing is here,
that the revolution's near,
but to me it seems quite clear
that it's all just a little bit of history repeating
Propellerheads - History Repeating

It's all been done. I'm not going to coin another famous quote on the value of history—that's been done as well. Suffice to say that the key to living with your fellow man (or woman) is understanding him (or her). While there's much value in truly engaging with individuals, it's also important to be able to filter out the background noise. The more subtle your understanding of mankind, the sharper the relief is into which people and events are thrown.

For this and other reasons, certain things are important. One must appreciate music. One must read, and perhaps write. One must consume art in its various forms, even if, at first, there's little comprehension. As more referents are acquired it becomes increasingly clear that everything is very tightly interconnected, and that state of interconnection somehow encodes a very good picture of human nature. A sophisticated and informed world-view does not lend itself to sophistry, but to humility and appreciation for the wisdom of others.
